Types of Ironing and When to Use Them
Types of Ironing and When to Use Them:Ironing is one of the chores that divides opinions the most. Some people love it as they claim it calms their nerves and others absolutely hate it. And then, there are those who hold no strong sentiment towards the activity, but just don’t have the time to do it. Nevertheless, ironing is important for your appearance and for your health, so today we’ll take a look at the different types of ironing and when it is best to use them.
Traditional Dry Ironing
As the heading suggests, the most conventional and oldest method for flattening creased fabric is with a dry iron. It is a very simple machine with not many functionalities. You can only control the temperature and very often you may need to use a spray bottle if you are ironing more delicate items or the creases are too deep. Usually, those irons are rather heavy but useful if you mainly iron for disinfection purposes - baby clothes, for example, or cotton underwear.
Rotary Press
Rotary ironing presses are used in commercial settings. You are very unlikely to have one at home and use it just for your family’s needs. Those machines save time as they can easily straighten larger pieces of fabric like bed sheets, for instance. Rotary presses are also good for shirts, dresses and other pieces of clothing. They have an array of settings, which require some indepth knowledge, but do a great job.
Steam Ironing
Most households use steam irons. They have much more functionalities than the traditional dry hot iron and can be used on a lot more fabrics. The superpower of those irons, of course, is the steam which successfully flattens any creases on both delicate and thick fabrics. It would be impossible to nicely iron a pleated cotton skirt with a dry iron only. Lace underwear would likely be ruined if ironed on high temperature and without steam. Some professional ironing services also use steam iron for shirts and other clothing items.
Mobile Steamers
Mobile steamers are perfect for vertical ironing. In most cases, this could be extra thin and delicate fabrics, such as silk, tulle, chiffon. Eventing dresses and tuxedos, fine curtains, sheer shirts and other garments love a mobile steamer. This is also the favourite tool of fashion designers. They use it to straighten any last-minute imperfections on their creations, seconds before the models walk on the runway.
Mobile steamers are not very expensive and if you like ironing at home, you would probably benefit a lot from owning one.
