- Spring Clean, Things to Spring Clean
Things to Spring Clean apart from Your House
Spring Clean: When we say spring cleaning, the first thing that possibly comes to mind is a big house scrubbing event. However, there is so much more you can spring clean apart from your house. You will be surprised how that occasional effort will bring such immense positive changes in your life. Are you ready? Let’s do it together!
Your Computer Files
When was the last time you sat down on your PC or laptop with the idea to organise your files? You don’t remember. Yeah, no surprise there.
It is likely that you have some work documents, as well as a lot of personal files on the device. And it gets so overwhelming when you are in a rush and looking for something specific and you just don’t remember which folder you saved it in. Did you save it at all?
And then the panic kicks in.
Avoid that and spend a few hours going through all the files on your PC/laptop. Delete what is irrelevant or obsolete and organise the rest neatly.
To be honest, that very machine desperately needs a cleanse from all the stuff you clog it with.
You’ve done the work - your computer works much faster and you find everything you are looking for in a couple of clicks. Life is not hard. Don’t make it so.
Your Phone Pictures / Videos
Memories are very important, and of course, you must keep them safe. With technology advancing every single day it has never been easier to take and store thousands of photos and videos on your phone. You see something that intrigues you - you take a snap. You share a moment with someone close - you capture it for eternity. And because it is so effortless you can quite easily get carried away and forget that your mobile device also needs a spring clean from time to time.
Start by deleting the screenshots. Most of the time their relevance expires after a few days or weeks as we more often than not take them as reminders.
Then, move on to files that downloaded automatically from your WhatsApp messages. Mom groups in that space are the worst. They just keep sending things most people don’t really care about. Check your app settings if you don’t want to allow automatic downloads in the future.
Make your way through the rest of the images and videos you took and discard anything that no longer serves a practical or emotional purpose.
Your Friends’ List
Nobody has time and energy for toxic people. Chances are you have some of those on your social media friends’ list, especially if you haven’t cleaned it up in a while.
People grow apart with time and some of them you may have never met in person. So, as a rule of thumb, if they don’t bring you knowledge, joy or money, let them go to greener pastures and free some space for people who will bring more value in your life.
It’s not you being mean or rude. It's a simple and very healthy way of protecting your mental and emotional wellbeing.
Your Wardrobe
Now this is going to be hard for some of you to read, but we will say it anyway.
Give those jeans away. They. Don’t. Fit. You!
Take a minute to sob and when you are ready come back to this so we can explain why spring cleaning your wardrobe is so important.
Obviously, with the change of season, what you wear changes too. Now that winter is behind us (at least we keep our hopes up), sweaters go to the back and summer dresses take the front row. Quite literally, this should be the arrangement of your wardrobe. And while you are making those moves, you will inevitably notice that there are items that don’t look so good anymore, don’t fit as they used to or just went out of style. There is no reason for them to continue taking space in the closet.
We’ve all said at least once “I’ve got absolutely nothing to wear”, while staring at a wardrobe fully stacked with clothes. Avoid that ironic scenario and simply bin or give away the items you no longer need. That way you can free space for new clothes and accessories that actually make you look and feel better.
Afterall, confidence is the only universal style that looks great on all body types, shapes and sizes.
Your Daily Routine
So far, everything that you managed to spring clean was external. Now, it’s time to turn to yourself and start some inner cleansing. Your daily routine is a very good place to start.
Sometimes we get too comfortable with the way we build our schedule and we adopt very unhealthy habits. At first, we don’t notice their effects and ignore the fact they could potentially bring a lot of damage. By the time those effects are evident we are too used to the routine and even though we know we need to do better, it is much harder to make changes.
Your job today is to review in detail your daily activities. Pinpoint the things you know you have to change and those that may be problematic in the future. Eliminate bad habits by taking small steps. Or if it works better for you, just go cold turkey immediately. The important takeaway is that you must clean up your routine to improve your wellbeing and avoid any future physical or mental health problems.
