Duvet and Pillow Laundry Tips

Surely, you wash your bed linen regularly, but what about the pillows and the duvet? They too need freshening up and disinfection from time to time, but it’s not as straightforward as shoving the sheets in the washing machine, is it? Here are some duvet and pillow laundry tips that might help you.

How often to wash the duvet and pillows

You don’t need to wash the larger bedding monthly, however, the minimum is twice a year. If you insist on increased freshness and regular disinfection, we recommend washing your duvet and pillows every change of season.

How to wash duvets

Duvets are usually quite large, so you might not be able to put them in the washing machine. Therefore, you may have to wash them by hand. It helps if you have a bath so you can wash the duvet in there. It will be a lot harder to rinse and squeeze the water out, though.

If you are lucky and you have a big washing machine that can fit the duvet, life becomes a little easier. Wash on no more than 30ºC and make sure you read the manufacturer’s instruction before you treat with any stain remover. If you are just washing to freshen the duvet up, use a mild detergent, preferably a green solution. Also, run two rinsing cycles as duvets can retain a lot of soapy water.

How to dry duvets

If the weather is on your side, you can spread the duvet on a clean sun dryer in your garden. But that would only be possible during the summer and for people who are not allergic to pollen.

The more stress-free solution would be putting the duvet in a tumble dryer. After it’s done, let the piece air dry for a while before you put it on the bed. Keep in mind that some of the duvet’s puffiness may have decreased after washing and drying. Use your hands to spread the inner filling equally throughout the duvet.

How to wash pillows

Similarly to duvets, not all pillows are suited for machine washing. If yours are, however, it is very important to check if they are completely intact before you put them in. In the event of a small opening on the sides, the filling can escape and create a great mess in the washing machine.

Don’t use strong detergents. Try solutions that are as eco-friendly as possible. Don’t forget you are putting your head on the pillows and wouldn’t want to breathe in chemicals while you sleep.

How to dry pillows

Pillows will take a long time to dry naturally, so if you can tumble dry them that’s best. However, make sure to not dry them on maximum heat! Check the manufacturer’s instructions. Also, to keep their filling spread equally, put two tennis balls in the dryer. This should take the air out and help the filling set in nicely where it belongs.

All this sounds too complicated? We know it could be overwhelming. Fortunately, you have us on your side. Our laundry service can help you keep your duvets and pillows clean and fresh without having to go through all that hustle. Ironing Tips and Tricks

Ironing your clothes is really beneficial for your health and for your appearance. But it isn’t an easy task and often takes a lot of time. As professional ironing service providers we have some tips and tricks to share with you and make this chore easier and less time-consuming.

Put a Smaller Load in the Washing Machine

To save yourself the time and effort of much ironing start preparing from the laundry point. Instead of running the washing machine on full capacity, put a smaller load in it. This will prevent the clothes from getting lots of wrinkles and it will be easier to iron them later.

Add a Fabric Conditioner

Fabric conditioners soften the clothes and prevent some deep wrinkles. It’s not a full on solution, but it could help. Be careful what conditioner you use, because the increased use of some has been linked to allergies and long term diseases.

Use a Tumble Dryer

If you have a tumble dryer you are already one step ahead of those who don’t. Some dryers have programmes, which help smoothen out some of the smaller wrinkles on you clothes and minimise your ironing afterwards. In addition, you should hand the clothes immediately you take them after the dryer even if they are not fully dry. That would help the wrinkles straighten even more.

Organise Your Clothes Before Ironing

The iron temperature increases gradually. Separate and organise your clothes before ironing. Start from the delicate and less wrinkled clothes and move on to the thicker fabrics with more wrinkles. By the time you get to the most wrinkled clothes the iron would have reached higher temperature and would be easier and quicker.

Don’t Iron in Circles

Not many people know this, but you should never iron in circles. That motion can scratch the surface of your clothes and ruin their fit. Instead, use long strokes in one direction to avoid stretching the fabric.

Use the Steam

Using steam for ironing is really good. It makes the process easier and it is also beneficial for your health. Steam ironing removes bad smells and helps people with respiratory conditions and allergies. Germs are 100% killed!

Your Ironing Board Matters

Get a comfortable ironing board. It’s just as important as a good quality iron. If it’s not the right height or it doesn’t provide enough support, you will get tired easier and ironing will become a much less pleasant chore to do.
