How Aromatherapy Can Boost Your Immunity

In one of our previous blog posts we talked about how different colours and colour combinations can brighten your home and impact your mood. Today we are focusing on scents that can help make you feel better, both mentally and physically. It’s a simple guide on how aromatherapy can boost your immunity while you are at home.

Cinnamon, Clove Bud and Ginger

Creating an aroma blend of cinnamon, clove bud and ginger essential oils has the ability to help your body fight some harmful bacteria and viruses. Please be aware that most essential oils are only suitable for external use. So, you should think about investing in a good diffuser, or aromatherapy candles, which you can place all over your home.

Eucalyptus

The eucalyptus essential oil not only smells fresh, but also helps clear congested sinuses. It has been proven to be very effective in fighting flu symptoms and other respiratory problems. It is also quite good for people with allergies and especially hay fever. And we are just entering hay fever season!

Lemon and other Citrus Scents

Lemon essential oil is a powerful immune stimulant. But also, citrus scents are well known for their mood lifting ability. They help ease nausea and could even help the recovery from E. Coli and some Staph infections.

Rosemary

Rosemary is beneficial not only as a herb and a food condiment. Rosemary essential oil has mild anti-virus properties and helps with sinusitis and migraines.

Tea Tree

Tea tree oil is widely used for many health purposes and as a preventive measure. Not everyone is a keen fan of the particular scent of tea tree, but its healing properties are hard to be denied. The oil can effectively treat viral infections of the digestive system and some harmful bacteria too. It’s a strong bug repellent too, so it's always useful to have it at home!

Strategic Placement of Aromatherapy Diffusers

Clearly, it’s beneficial to use essential oils in each of your rooms, but you may want to place different scents in different spaces based on their effect.

The living room is a perfect place where you could use the immune boosting blends because this is probably the room where you spend most of your time. Cinnamon also makes the environment more cosy, reminding you of Christmas. But if you want to get into a more summery mood, or you are just not a fan of cinnamon, you can go for eucalyptus or citrus aromas.

For your bedroom use calming aromas - lavender, eucalyptus, rosemary. They should help you relax and ease any respiratory problems. Being able to breathe well while sleeping improves the quality of your sleep and this plays a key role in the body ability to recover quickly from an illness.

The bathroom could benefit from a blend of tea tree oil and citrus scents. The tea tree oil has antibacterial properties, while the citrus scents will give the space a fresh and uplifting feeling.
