10 Minutes a Day Keep the Doctor Away
Eating your greens? Good.
Exercising regularly? Great.
Making time just for yourself to reflect and calm your mind? You are doing a fantastic job!
Cleaning and disinfecting your home regularly? You don’t have, you say? Oh come now, you can do better than that.
10 minutes a day keep the doctor away!
The New Threat
You might have been reading the news about a new mysterious hepatitis that is, apparently, linked to adenoviruses. It has already put hundreds into hospitals and unfortunately proved to be fatal for many children and adults. These types of viruses are not new and they are known to cause a wide range of symptoms and diseases like conjunctivitis, pneumonia, diarrhoea and more. The good news, however, is that good personal hygiene and frequent disinfection of your environment should be able to prevent the spread of the virus.
How Often to Clean
To keep your home healthy, you need to put in a daily effort. But it is not to say you must clean for hours. Ten minutes a day are just enough to help you maintain sound living conditions.
What to Clean
Some areas of your home have a higher cleaning priority and require more frequent attention than others. The kitchen, bathroom and living room should be at the top of your list.
Spend a few minutes each day just to tidy up anything that’s not in its place. Leaving items where they don’t belong creates clutter and clutter is an ideal hiding place for tiny (and not so tiny) human health predators.
You may want to vacuum the hallway every day with a HEPA filter vacuum cleaner each day or every other day. This will minimise the spread of germs and allergens brought into your home from outside.
Your kitchen worktops need daily wipe and disinfection. This is where you handle food, including fresh veggies and fruits, which you consume without any cooking. Sanitised kitchen is an insurance policy for potential cross-contamination.
When it comes to the bathroom, daily disinfection of the sink and the toilet is also a good idea, especially if you have young children.
Further benefits
All of the above tasks should not take more than 10-15 minutes and will not only keep your family safe, but also decrease the workload for cleaning you have to do at the end of the week. A place that is maintained regularly is much easier and faster to clean, even when you decide to do deep cleaning.
Not to mention by performing simple and easy cleaning tasks every day you still burn calories and it counts as a light form of exercise. If that’s not an added bonus, we don’t know what is!
Living in a tidy and clean home works its magic on your mental health and productivity too. You will be more focused, more inspired, more energised and generally in a better mood.
Those 10 cleaning minutes a day can do so much for you and your family that your GP might actually start missing you after a while!
